How to Avoid the "Gym Burnout"
We are very deep into 2019 now. With September already here, many of you may be long-haul gym goers and have seen it out for the whole year. You may also be part of those coming back into the gym after vacationing this summer or taking the summer off with the kiddos. Whatever your case may be, you are still at risk of the dreaded "Gym Burnout." We have compiled a couple of quick strategies for avoiding the burnout and keep going toward your goals!
DO WHAT YOU ENJOY
How does that old saying go? "If you do something you love, you will never work a day in your life." That applies here in the gym too. If you are doing something you love, your body basically drives itself to the gym. Not only that, but you will be able to avoid the gym blues. Our recommendation is to try out different methods of exercise in the gym, or simply some different workouts! If you have hit a hump (not just because it being Wednesday), try out a new class, or work in some new exercises, or even just trying a similar workout on a new machine. The change of pace can help liven up your workout and rejuvenate your passion.
PLAN YOUR WORKOUT
AHEAD OF TIME
Plan out what your workout for the day will consist of. Whether you're out in the weight room getting ready for a brutal leg workout, or just attending a class, having a plan for what your workout will look like can help tremendously when you do finally arrive at the gym.
FIND A BUDDY
A buddy can help boost your accountability (think Dwight Schrute's accountability booster, minus the terror). Even if your buddy isn't going to the gym with you for every session, they can help keep you accountable by checking in on your workouts or diet. Sometimes, having someone other than yourself to be accountable to can make things easier in the gym.
A buddy can also make the workouts that much more entertaining. They may have different workouts that you can consistently try new things, or even have some great new workout tunes you both can jam out to while working out. Even if you are doing your regular routine, having a friend there is always nice (plus you can use it as an excuse to catch up daily).
DON'T LET A BAD DAY GET YOU DOWN
Everyone has those days. Your body isn't feeling the workout, you had a rough day at work and don't want to hit the gym, maybe you just want to eat a pizza by yourself. Our opinion? Take that day to yourself, but don't let that one day derail you from your goals. Even with a tough day, keep pushing, because there are always better days coming!
IT'S OKAY TO ASK FOR HELP
Your buddy is obviously always going to be there for you. There may be times where you are looking for more help, though. Don't hesitate to ask for a helping hand both inside and outside the gym. We are always here to help, but there are countless resources out there. If you would like our help, please don't hesitate to reach out!
Believe in yourself! You are capable of some pretty incredible things as long as you put your mind to it!
